AB OBJECTIVE: The main goals of the research were investigation of
HIV-infection dynamic in the South Region of Ukraine and establishing of
the character of epidemiological process of HIV-infection among the
Ukrainian citizens. METHODS: All HIV-infected persons in Ukraine and in
South Region of Ukraine were selected as a subject for study. A
comparison was carried out with all Ukrainian persons who were tested
for HIV infection and the whole population of Ukraine. There were
applied a number of virological, serological, epidemiological and
immunological methods. Standard statistical tests were used for
performing of received data. RESULTS: The levels of HIV infected
individuals in Southern regions of Ukraine were vary in different
regions: from 0.18 (per 10.000 citizens) in Odessa to only 0.009 in
Kherson. The highest level of infectivity (250.0 per 10.000) was among
individuals who have had sexual contacts with HIV infected individuals.
In the same time, on the other territory of Ukraine this level is
decreased in 6.11 times. In the South region of Ukraine the main way of
HIV infectivity is a sexual transmission (79.68%). It was shown the
influence of geographic location on the dynamic of HIV-infection. Spread
of HIV infection among different social groups was investigated.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: Approximation of received data from Odessa
region by square function has demonstrated the probable increasing of
HIV-infection in the nearest future. All medical and social measurements
for prevention of AIDS should be in accordance with the specificity and
peculiarities of AIDS development in concrete regions and particularly
in the South Region of Ukraine.
